1 month to go!

 Wow - one month from now we'll be in the air and soon to land in Nairobi. I can't believe its so close now. We're getting together as a team now, and we're just doing our last big push on organising and collecting things to take with us. Here is what we're currently looking for, do have a look at our Amazon gift list, and do get in touch with Claire or one of the Joshes or the St James church office if you can help - 

 Gifts For Kenya

We are putting together a list of items that we are hoping to take to Kenya with us, if you would like to support by purchasing any of these items for us, please could you buy using our Amazon wish list. We are in need of multiples of many of the items listed, but some of the larger items we may only need one or two of. Please check our notes in the list before purchasing.

 

Additionally there are some extra costs towards the running of the holiday club, if anyone feels called to support this ministry, see the list below for some specific costs. We are grateful that we have already raised the £1044 needed to fund the costs of meals.

 

- Cost of staffing: £188

- Tent hire: £205 (less if we are able to purchase tents for them)

- Registration costs: £200

- Hire of speaker system and prizes for talent show: £230

- Planning costs: £135

- Advertising costs: £105

- Purchase of smaller tent: £151 each (x2 needed) (used for food preparation)

- Purchase of larger tent: £272  (x1 needed) (seats 350 people)

  Hello, it's Grace, one of the people on the mission trip!  Today was an emotional day for us all. One thing that happened was that me and JoJo got our A level results (we really appreciated all the prayers, thank you) and we have both gotten into Exeter Uni!!! It was interesting to go straight from that into going into to the children's home called Real Hope as it gave to me some perspective on education and the privilege that it is, we went on a tour of the home led by the wonderful Samuel who clearly has such a love and care for the kids and such a heart for his work. We learned so much on the tour about what life is like for these kids. We were able to serve by playing with the kids and talking to the staff, and me and Jane helped to make Chapati (which was very tasty but probably not due to my involvement lol), we went to a field to play with the children and it was really great to see the games they enjoyed, some I knew, some I learned.  We've had another incredible weekend here in preparation for our Kenya mission trip. Yesterday 14 people climbed Snowdon. I (Claire) have been reflecting on the trip in the last 24 hours and there is so much I could see. Here are a few thoughts, and a few photos.   Firstly a few 'prizes' -   - craziest climber - Simi (with Matthew as a close runner up)  - most helpful - Matthew  - bravest - all of us, but especially Grace and Heather battling through injuries and pain  - most sacrificial - Kevin, Hazel, Amy and Nicola - giving up half their weekend and climbing Snowdon with us despite not even going to Kenya  - mountain goats - the Maynards - they made it look easy! It wasn't!  - most shocked by how big Snowdon actually is - Grace and Josh L  - leader of the pack - Josh G -  somehow managed to keep at the front for most of the climb up and down to help keep our young people safe  -  wisest and most sensible and so he...

Fab first day.

 We've had a fabulous first day.   Our accommodation at Resurrection Garden is so lovely. The first 3 photos below show the gorgeous surroundings.   We then spent the afternoon with Pastor Rhoda at Nairobi Chapel. They have such an amazing campus and its so different to anything you would see in the uk. I'll add some other photos on another blog in a minute. There were lots of big tents and classrooms, with different areas for different age groups. It was fab to hear how they focus their work around TOUCH. T is for Teams - teams working together to reach their local community for Jesus. O for one on one - building relationships to share God's love. U for under 18s and young adults - intentionally investing in the next generation. C for community - reaching out for Jesus. and H for health - spiritual, mental and physical health.
