6 weeks to go!

Image
Wow, another week has gone by. Its a bit scary that the trip to Kenya is really not too far away now.  We received some more pictures of where we'll be staying in Nairobi - it looks beautiful and I can't wait to see it in real life.     We also had a get together to pray for our trip last week. It was lovely to get some of the group and some friends and supporters together. Here are a few of the prayers we wrote. We look forward to praying together again in July.

Family trip

We are lucky that 14 of our church family are going on this trip. But 6 of the group have the bonus of being related family too. Here's another video from Ali, who will be coming on the trip with her husband and 4 kids.

7 weeks to go!

Wow, it gets closer and closer! This week we're holding a prayer meeting at St James - 7.30pm on 24th June if you're free and would like to stand with us in prayer for this trip.  And here's a video of the lovely Esther telling us what she's looking forward to - Esther and her mum are responsible for the fabulous jams and bible prints we've been selling to raise funds.   Over the coming weeks we'll post some more videos of our fab team.

8 weeks to go!

Wow - this time in 8 weeks we'll be just an hour or so away from landing in Nairobi - its getting really exciting now.   On Sunday we met as a whole team for the first time - apart from Jane who will join us actually in Kenya, we had all 13 of us together. We worshipped and prayed, and talked about some of the detail of what we'll be doing. Its looking like its going to be really exciting with the opportunity to see and do lots of different things. I'm so grateful to our host organisations in Kenya. It was great to continue trying to learn some Swahili too, and find out a bit more about some of the cultural experiences while we're there - it is possible some of our team may get marriage proposals and there was much laughter over how many cows we would accept to marry one of the group off. :-)  We also had another fundraiser - another incredibly successful cake and craft sale. Such brilliant things on display. I'm delighted to say we have now covered basic costs of ...

2 months to go.

In exactly two months time we'll be taking off from Heathrow Airport on our way to Nairobi. It feels like its starting to get close.   We had a meeting with Nairobi Chapel yesterday, talking about the opportunities they're offering us to see what life is like in Nairobi, church life and day to day for different people groups. It sounds so exciting, and I can't wait.

9 week to go!

So this time (lunchtime on Tuesday 9th June) in 9 weeks we'll be mid-flight to Nairobi, Kenya. The weeks are going by really quick now.   We are knee deep in practical things to get sorted - visas, vaccinations, medical forms, risk assessments, etc.   But this weekend we also have our final fundraiser (hopefully) - another cake and bake sale. The team and family and friends have been incredible at making and baking. If you're at or near St James Styvechale on Sunday 14th June come along after either service to buy some goodies to support our trip.  We also have another team get together on Sunday afternoon, where we're looking forward to getting to know each other better, learn a bit more Swahili and plan our time in Kenya.
10 weeks to go! I can't believe it! So exciting!
