Day 13 final day

 We are carrying mixed emotions today and tiredness is beginning to hit - it’s our last day. We started early with breakfast and pack up and then headed out for half a day of activities. 


We did a 3 mile nature trail through the woods which was beautiful. Then a few of us headed to a shopping mall for lunch and gift buying - could you be one of the lucky ones?! The rest of us went to an outside swimming pool to cool off and have fun. It was awesome. See the photos. 


Late this afternoon, we collected our luggage and said goodbye to Resurrection Garden where we have been staying. It has been such a blessing to stay there. We then headed to Rev Nick’s from Nairobi chapel with him leading the way on his motorbike! Such a cool rev.


Dinner and saying goodbye was so encouraging and such a blessing. They treated us to a wonderful dinner to celebrate and refresh before our flight. They even gave us a Kenya happy birthday and cake for all of us with birthdays and anniversaries coming up before Christmas! In one sense we are sad to be leaving, having met family here in Kenya. We have hearts to return sometime soon!  


We’re currently checked in and waiting to be called for our flight. Homeward bound and looking forward to seeing you all soon. 


Thank you for your ongoing prayers. We can tell we are being upheld in prayer.

  Hello, it's Grace, one of the people on the mission trip!  Today was an emotional day for us all. One thing that happened was that me and JoJo got our A level results (we really appreciated all the prayers, thank you) and we have both gotten into Exeter Uni!!! It was interesting to go straight from that into going into to the children's home called Real Hope as it gave to me some perspective on education and the privilege that it is, we went on a tour of the home led by the wonderful Samuel who clearly has such a love and care for the kids and such a heart for his work. We learned so much on the tour about what life is like for these kids. We were able to serve by playing with the kids and talking to the staff, and me and Jane helped to make Chapati (which was very tasty but probably not due to my involvement lol), we went to a field to play with the children and it was really great to see the games they enjoyed, some I knew, some I learned.  We've had another incredible weekend here in preparation for our Kenya mission trip. Yesterday 14 people climbed Snowdon. I (Claire) have been reflecting on the trip in the last 24 hours and there is so much I could see. Here are a few thoughts, and a few photos.   Firstly a few 'prizes' -   - craziest climber - Simi (with Matthew as a close runner up)  - most helpful - Matthew  - bravest - all of us, but especially Grace and Heather battling through injuries and pain  - most sacrificial - Kevin, Hazel, Amy and Nicola - giving up half their weekend and climbing Snowdon with us despite not even going to Kenya  - mountain goats - the Maynards - they made it look easy! It wasn't!  - most shocked by how big Snowdon actually is - Grace and Josh L  - leader of the pack - Josh G -  somehow managed to keep at the front for most of the climb up and down to help keep our young people safe  -  wisest and most sensible and so he...

Day 8- Compassion

As Claire mentioned in our previous blog post. Today we have split into two groups, the majority of us going to visit the Compassion project at the First Baptist Church, Serem. Josh #2, as I now appear to be known, reporting for duty. The drive was long, over 2 hours, our driver was playing a worship playlist and so we occupied ourselves joining in worship. Serem was packed full of people for market day. Sadly (or happily, depending on your point of view), we did not have any time to shop because we had to go straight to the church where we were greeted with a song and dance from the church community. We were introduced to the children and families who are sponsored by members of St James church. There was much rejoicing, and much praising the Lord. We were all given tinsel garlands (itchy), as visitors are honoured with colourful flowers, in place of real flowers they used tinsel.
