1 day 11 hours to go!

Wow, less than 36 hours now til we'll be leaving Coventry. Lots of last minute business going on today. Packing, sorting money, collecting last minute gifts for people in Kenya. 

And today all of us were at church for the final time before our trip.  The care, the prayers, the encouragement this morning, was truly a blessing - we could not be more grateful both to St James, and to Esther's church Bedworth Baptist Church - for their prayers and encouragement today, and for their support with prayer and fundraising throughout this journey. 

 I think it was fair to say it was quite an emotional morning at St James. Lots of us were feeling big feelings - Josh L's sermon was full of his excitement to be able to take his Coventry church family back to his Kenyan roots and we're all excited to meet his lovely wife Jane. Many of us are feeling excitement, nerves, awed that this amazing opportunity has come together and we'll be off in just a couple of days. It was a morning of hugs and encouragement from God - we will be softened and stretched by the Holy Spirit (I hope I've captured the essence of what you said Bridget) but God has got this - it will come together, He is our protection and He goes before us. 

Joshua 1:9 - "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go"

  Hello, it's Grace, one of the people on the mission trip!  Today was an emotional day for us all. One thing that happened was that me and JoJo got our A level results (we really appreciated all the prayers, thank you) and we have both gotten into Exeter Uni!!! It was interesting to go straight from that into going into to the children's home called Real Hope as it gave to me some perspective on education and the privilege that it is, we went on a tour of the home led by the wonderful Samuel who clearly has such a love and care for the kids and such a heart for his work. We learned so much on the tour about what life is like for these kids. We were able to serve by playing with the kids and talking to the staff, and me and Jane helped to make Chapati (which was very tasty but probably not due to my involvement lol), we went to a field to play with the children and it was really great to see the games they enjoyed, some I knew, some I learned.  We've had another incredible weekend here in preparation for our Kenya mission trip. Yesterday 14 people climbed Snowdon. I (Claire) have been reflecting on the trip in the last 24 hours and there is so much I could see. Here are a few thoughts, and a few photos.   Firstly a few 'prizes' -   - craziest climber - Simi (with Matthew as a close runner up)  - most helpful - Matthew  - bravest - all of us, but especially Grace and Heather battling through injuries and pain  - most sacrificial - Kevin, Hazel, Amy and Nicola - giving up half their weekend and climbing Snowdon with us despite not even going to Kenya  - mountain goats - the Maynards - they made it look easy! It wasn't!  - most shocked by how big Snowdon actually is - Grace and Josh L  - leader of the pack - Josh G -  somehow managed to keep at the front for most of the climb up and down to help keep our young people safe  -  wisest and most sensible and so he...

Fab first day.

 We've had a fabulous first day.   Our accommodation at Resurrection Garden is so lovely. The first 3 photos below show the gorgeous surroundings.   We then spent the afternoon with Pastor Rhoda at Nairobi Chapel. They have such an amazing campus and its so different to anything you would see in the uk. I'll add some other photos on another blog in a minute. There were lots of big tents and classrooms, with different areas for different age groups. It was fab to hear how they focus their work around TOUCH. T is for Teams - teams working together to reach their local community for Jesus. O for one on one - building relationships to share God's love. U for under 18s and young adults - intentionally investing in the next generation. C for community - reaching out for Jesus. and H for health - spiritual, mental and physical health.
